A little thinner or thicker should not matter, but too thin might tear. Don't worry about dimensions of the cork ring, just place one of the Telinga clamping rings on the cork and mark around the inside and outside with a ball point pen and cut it out with whatever is handy. Pocket knife etc. Make two so there is one on each side of the dish. Reassemble the dish to the handle and you are all set to go.
