Many of you will know of the male Emu and his six chicks out at the Cotter, Pierces Creek area. These birds are separate to the one or more birds at Tidbinibilla, and have been reported and photographed for a good year or more.

Sadly, the adult male Emu was killed by a vehicle early last week. His six chicks are well grown but there is concern from the Rangers at Tidbinbilla about how the six chicks will fare without their dad.

Last Thursday, two of the youngsters were seen together. I believe this was at the Cotter reserve. There have been no further reports of them or their siblings since then. Any sightings of the young birds will be of interest. Report your sightings to the Chatline or to eBird. The youngsters are around two thirds or more of the size of an adult.
