Good afternoon members
Some of you may be aware of the Conservation Council campaign to protect the Western Edge of Canberra from development. To quote their website:
Canberra’s Western Edge, a beautiful patch of critically endangered ecosystems to Canberra’s west, is up for unsustainable, unaffordable and dangerous development by the ACT Government. With Canberra’s urban boundary being set by the ACT Government
over the next two years, we have to tell our government now, before decisions are made, that we want our Western Edge protected — not developed — so it can continue to provide vital services to our community.
To raise awareness in the community, the Conservation Council is running a series of bushwalks in conjunction with local bushwalking groups, and also Kim is leading a bird walk for the community. (She is also leading a walk for Canberra Birds in February).
To make Canberra Birds' members aware of the areas at risk, I thought it would be a good idea for field trips in 2026 to include some of the areas on the Western boundary. Thus, I am seeking leaders for trips to:
I still have many gaps to fill in next year's programme, so if you can help with the above walks or have other ideas, these are the dates that are available:
Many thanks
Sue Lashko
