A very similar experience today to that of three days ago, with a small flock of swifts seen flying fast and low whilst I was driving along the Kings Highway.  This time it was in the locality of Larbert, which is roughly 12km north of Braidwood, about 3km south of the Shoalhaven River, at 6.15pm.  I stopped the car and got out to look, hoping to see a larger flock of birds, but I only saw half a dozen and they were gone very quickly, headed east.  They were very clearly White-throated Needletails, with the late afternoon sun shining off their white- coloured throat feathers.

I was driving back from the southern highlands yesterday afternoon and near where the Hume Hwy crosses Paddy River saw a single White-tailed Needletail. I was driving so didn’t have the opportunity to look for more. It was about 4.30pm. Also the first one I’ve seen this season despite storm watching for much of the summer.

As I was driving along the Kings Highway yesterday afternoon around 4.20pm I saw a small number of swifts just as the road passes out of the ACT and into NSW. This is about 7km from Bungendore. I only saw around half a dozen, but as I was driving I couldn't scan the sky much, so there may have been a larger number of birds I didn't see. The swifts I saw were White-throated Needletails. These are the first swifts I've seen this season and I've looked for them a lot over summer, before and after the frequent storms, mostly over Braidwood.
