Martin Butterfield had a close look at the data available to 2014:
Butterfield, M 2014, 'Plumed Whistling-Ducks in the COG Area of Interest',
Canberra Bird Notes, vol. 39, no. 3, pp. 173-84.
The Plumed Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna eytoni) is being more frequently reported in the COG Area of Interest since 2009. This report consolidates the data recorded for
the species, noting a number of difficulties experienced in that process. The location, date of sighting and flock size is summarised up to October 2014. It is not possible to suggest what has caused the increased presence of the species in our area but it
is tentatively suggested that each year’s records relate to a single flock.
I doubt that the data collected in the decade between then and now shed much more light on the topic.

An interesting thought David, and I have noticed that the Trucking Yard Lane Whistling Ducks do disappear from time to time. (I tend to visit Bungendore most months.) It would be nice though if they turned up more often in key birding spots
in the ACT - if only to engage the strong interest of ACT birders! More seriously though, Martin Butterfield or Michael Lenz (and others of course) might have thoughts on the movements of the species in our area (ie COG's NSW area of interest). It could be
that they circulate between areas birders visit and areas birders can't access. Goodness knows. I do notice dry period/wet period movement of the species in other areas of NSW I visit.
