On Monday 9 October, Barbara Allan and I visited the Majura Defence Training Area for the quarterly COG Woodland Survey. It was a beautiful spring morning with sunny skies and no wind. Perfect for birds and for people

We saw more than 35 species at the eight survey sites. Highlights were the White-necked Heron, Varied Sitella at the same location and Pallid Cuckoo,  Shining and Horsfields Bronze-cuckoos at multiple sites.  Raptors were also also seen - Wedge-tailed Eagle, Brown Falcon and Black-shouldered Kite.  And as with the March and June surveys this year, there were fewer Noisy Miners than has been usual in recent years.
