Hi all - I’m spending a couple of weeks in Tasmania, including time on Bruny Island. The local birders say that the Swift Parrots left southern Tasmania a few weeks ago.

I was just leaving Tuggeranong Mens Shed at about 1 p.m. today and heard the obvious clink call of Swift Parrots. At first I could only see flocks of Red-rumped Parrots coming down to puddles to bathe. Though there could easily have been Swift Parrots with them. I stayed around and heard the Swift Parrots again. 3 of them fly around close to over me, then about 8 or so. So there would have been about 10. Though going by last year there are often more than what you first think. Unfortunately the site is not so easy to get to as it is behind a locked gate. It is near the sports ground on the other side of the fence from the Tuggeranong Mens Shed, which is at the back of the archery club at the end of Soward Way. 29 March would seem to be very early for them to be back here. I went to see if any were around Jenke Circuit which was such a good spot last winter. I only stayed briefly but did not notice any.
