List users may be interested to know that  COG has project in train to look at noisy miner colonisation and impacts on woodland birds, especially small birds (using COGs long term woodland survey/sites data). Our recent report from overall analysis of 21 years of data (available on COG website under the conservation menu/woodland birds), has shown that Noisy Miners have increased 6 fold in ACT woodlands, the largest increase of any species.  There may be results from the current project which can usefully inform management actions, and a possible listing of the species as a threatening ecological process under ACT legislation.

Cheers

I think we are all aware of the damage Noisy Miners do to other birds.  However it was very clearly illustrated on last night’s ABC Catalyst program “The secret life of our urban birds” produced by Ann Jones.  It clearly showed Noisy Miners attacking small birds.  Isn’t it possible for bird groups to put pressure the relevant authorities to trap and kill Noisy Miners in the same way that Common Mynahs are?
