Riding to work this morning, I rode into an active flock of small
birds in the field on the dirt road that goes between the landscape
supply place at the end of Old Wells Station Road and Well's station
road (Gast of the greenshed at Mitchell). There would have been maybe
8-maybe more- doing little vertical fluttery flights, often with their
tails held in a downward position, then landing on the grass heads or
lower in the grass. They were calling incessantly to each other, a loud
persistent "zeet" type call. I wouldn't call it a positive ID as while
I've seen golden headed cisticola's I wouldn't say I've got a really
good feel for their jizz and I didn't have bins with me and they were up
sun-seemingly moving to the east.

It reminded me of migrating flocks in Canada which you would come across
around dawn, lots of energy from a flock of birds that has possibly been
migrating at night?

Anyone seen similar things, or have thoughts? A stubble quail flushed
from the same spot, and then when I rode off a few minutes later I
flushed two more quail about 50m further up the road
