I still had 2 begging Koel fledglings in my neighbours’ garden most of yesterday afternoon.  As opposed to the day before both seemed to stay within the foliage, and one with still a not full grown tail was located near our fence and fed by a Red Wattlebird.

They were still there this morning, but when I went to check on a close one around 9:40, one flew away on my approach, leaving another within 50 cm still exposed on the branch.  When I got closer I also noticed a very advanced one on the fence around 10 m away.

However, when the three had flown away from their spot, I could still hear begging within the wattle, and found a fourth one just a few metres from where the two had been.

So 4 fledglings/juveniles very close together, the first time I have witnessed that many.

We went out very shortly after, but on our return two fledglings were still calling at pretty much the same spots as yesterday.

The other two might just have been passing through on their way north, but at least one of the remaining doesn’t seem anywhere ready to do so yet.
