Subject: Re: [Canberrabirds] Is there the nest of a swan in the SE corner of the Big Dam at Mulligans Flat?
As a regular to the Big Dam I can tell you that in the past few moths a pair of swans have had several unsuccessful attempts at nesting at the location in your photo.
To my knowledge there are no swans on the dam at the moment and the last attempt was some time ago. I usually try to record breeding attempts on my eBird lists.
Are you particularly interested in Swans breeding? If so, the pair on the Valley Ave Ponds in Gungahlin appear to be nesting again. There are three? large cygnets/immature
birds on the ponds too.
There have multiple Swan breeding events on the Forde Ponds this season - at least four to my knowledge - two pairs of Swans.

I’m hoping some of the visitors to the Big Dam at Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary can help identify a possible swan nest in the south
eastern corner of the dam (35°10'45.6"S 149°09'41.2"E).
A photo of this ‘grass’ structure has been posted to Canberra Nature Map for identification. The mound of brown ‘grass’ appears to
have a tunnel entrance, which has influenced the identification process, but that may be just a shadow.
