Face Book Groups appeal to a younger audience, and if there is a plan to balance the demographic profile of COG, use of social media must be part of that, but Vice Versa, to maintain
the appeal to the existing demographic, email is king. So you do both. All media share the potential for users to take, or cause, offence, with the social media being generally considered much worse. On this chatline today there seems to have been a healthy
majority of posts calling for tolerance, and asking contributors to make an effort to minimise the potential to take offence.

Subject: Re: [canberrabirds] Importance of the Chat Line
The chat line has been and is a useful resource for people in the Canberra region.
We need to ensure we are decent to each other and 'play the ball not the person' where differences of opinion exist.
Increasingly however there are other ways to share stuff with others of similar interest, e.g. Facebook groups. I wonder if the chat line is loosing its diversity of contributors and watchers, especially the young. Something for its custodians to consider
perhaps?

Dear COG members
This chat line is a very important glue to keep us together and a very important source of expertise and assistance to new birders. Even if we do get things wrong occasionally!
So can we please try to forgive each other our trespasses and be kind?
