Thanks Philip for all your efforts on my behalf - I am Prue by the way.  I would be happy knowing the bird let alone sex and age.

Many thanks.

Hi Con,

I did not know that resource. Thanks for that. The photo with the code https://birdlifephotography.org.au/index.php/show-image?r=2125&id=32408-satin-bowerbird  matches what I wanted and I am confident I am correct. Although it could be a tail feather and it could be a young male.

Hi Philip

If you go to the Birdlife Photography Group Website

https://birdlifephotography.org.au/

Click on 'photo Gallery'

Click on 'All photos'

Then click on 'Search Options'

Then enter 'Satin Bowerbird' (You type in the words and then highlight the species in the box.)

Then click on 'search'.

Quite a few images of Satin Bowerbirds are available for inspection, including one with an underwing pattern, captured while the bird was land. This might be of help to you.

regards

Con

Sorry to be so specific. Yesterday Tina bought along a feather to the Tidbinbilla open day to identify. Picked up on a recent COG outing. It is 13 cm, such a strange colour, the options are very limited. Bronze to olive on top (depending on light), at first look is brown below but with a distinctly yellowish tinge, including a distinctly yellow shaft (underneath but black on top). I am confident it is a wing feather of a female Satin Bowerbird. Seeking confirmation, if anyone has a photo of the underwing of a spread wing of same, that would help. HANZAB pictures show underside in flight, which is the best I have here, which strongly supports my expectation. The HANZAB text (Vol 7A, page 909) description fits exactly.
