Subject: A mediterranean diet

Yesterday morning the large Narrabundah/Symonston corella flock was feeding in the Goddess Athena Olive Grove, corner Hindmarsh and Jerrabomberra Ave.  Part of the huge aggregation, perhaps a third, is below in the landscape snap with a small camera through the fence.  I estimate at least 1000 birds.  A few Sulphur-cresteds were mixed in.  The aggregation extended in from the whole length of the Jerra Ave frontage of 200m, so covered at least 2ha.  The birds were eating the flesh of the fruit, sometimes spending more than a minute nibbling on just one.  No cracking or crunching sound that’s made when cockatoos are eating seeds.  A few birds were in the trees, but nearly all were attacking fallen fruit.  Some of the birds were around today, but in reduced numbers and not seen at the olives.
