There is a lot of avian activity associated with  the Melbourne Cup.  Well over half the field are turkeys and the stands are full of geese, galahs and drongos!

Just a question of getting the balance right, Wayne.  I thought Lach’s message about a near view of a mating was very reportable.

We all have our preferences.  Personally, I would like to hear more about emergent ducklings of the A Wood Duck, Australia’s favourite maned duck.  I have sometimes wondered if it is a coincidence that the first of these appear around Melbourne Cup Day.

Am I just being a grumpy old person or do other chatliners share my view that Koels are now a sufficiently well established feature of Canberra’s bird scene that we don’t really need to know about each and every one that turns up?
