Mark, since you've been away I'll repeat my post of 10 October:
"After hearing my first male Koel calling (both calls) across Darwinia Tce
in Rivett around 8:15 this morning I followed up similar calling (mainly
ko-el) this afternoon and found 2 males in the small park about 300 m from
our house.
Celia Hindmarsh first reported a male calling from very close by a week ago
on 2 October. Interestingly this is a favourite location in the area for
Koels and was the core area for 2 fledglings which spent over 3 weeks there
in January/February 2018."
This was the only Koel record on the eBird map until a couple of days ago.
The bird has stayed around, mainly in that area, interestingly apart from
the odd wirra wirra, the calling has been all ko-el, including for long
periods from around 4:40 am mid week, an indication that female Koels have
yet to arrive, at least in my area.

Hi Mark
A male making the ko-el call has been heard near my home in Deakin on three
occasions up to yesterday - once very close. I missed the sighting on that
occasion but I suspect it may have been in the tree where much social
activity occurred last year.
There have been a few other reports also but I'll let those observers
respond.

Good morning all,
I have been away from Canberra for several weeks so may have missed any
messages but has anyone recorded Pacific (Eastern) Koels in Canberra so far
this spring? There has been one calling a long way off from my house in
Kaleen early this morning.
Mark
