The best discussion of this is a book called "Sprinter to Sprummer".  That argues for 5 seasons for the Melbourne -Sydney areas,  The author also explains that there are many more definitions of seasons than are dreamt of in Wiki's philosopy!

He still has until September 23 to get his tail right. That is the official start of spring, not September 1 like everyone thinks.
