There is nothing new in what is proposed to be done on Lord Howe, hence the ability to 'tick and flick' the science.  The issue with working with local people is a different and separate matter and you will never please everyone.  The latter should the responsibility of the State concerned, in this case NSW, working with local representatives.  States control the use of approved pesticides in Australia, not the APVMA.

David, it is expected that the APVMA will give approval in May sometime but that is so late that the rodent eradication program has again been postponed, this time until June-July 2019. The problem lies in the fact that the island is populated with humans, not that it should be regarded as part of New Zealand.

Thanks Bill, and we are still waiting for the APVMA to approve the use of such baits on Lord Howe, Thanks to a certain polly, it might take a while....  Don't know why they don't just 'tick and flick' it, givens NZ's experience with such matters and the fact you could argue that Lord Howe was geologically more part of NZ than it is Australia. But eh....
