Common names are rightly the cultural property of the country/people that use them, so in Australia it the Scarlet Honeyeater. Regardless of what you call them, they are still 'honeyeaters'. That is why it is OK to have Banded Dotterel (NZ)
and Double-banded Plover when they come here.
NZ is using Maori names for its native species more and more, gets round this issue. Maybe we should go 'feral' and adopt some indigenous names for Australia's birds. Must be one for this bird.......
