And such a fine sight to see

I’ve just returned from a week in the Thora Valley, above Bellingen, NSW. The Channel-billed Cuckoos flew across the valley each morning, calling, and flew back in the evening. Unmistakeable.

Standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona / there’s a girl, my lord, in a flat-bed Ford / slowin’ down to take a look at me.

No such luck, but while standing on a corner in bosky Aranda at about 7 AM yesterday I looked up to glimpse a Channel-billed Cuckoo flying over south to north.

A perusal of records seems to indicate that mid- January is late for this species to appear in the in the ACT. However I had a good view for about three seconds, and can’t think what else it could have been.
