Having just drafted the entry for the Channel-billed Cuckoo for the Annual Bird Report I happen to know that there are records in Jan, Feb and Mar, as well as many other months of the year. So your record is well within expectations.

No such luck, but while standing on a corner in bosky Aranda at about 7 AM yesterday I looked up to glimpse a Channel-billed Cuckoo flying over south to north.

A perusal of records seems to indicate that mid- January is late for this species to appear in the in the ACT. However I had a good view for about three seconds, and can’t think what else it could have been.
