Agree with Martin to check with DOC re current access arrangements, NZ is an unstable place and stuff gets damaged/ washed away on a regular basis. Many Pied stilts in NZ , even up north, have Black stilt genes in them, as seen by the variable
amount of black on them - one of the reasons why they are so rare now.
Many visitor services in DOC / publicly owned areas are run by private operators on a concession basis, and costs can be variable. NZ$50 per person entry for the Albatross colony according the operators site, Given there are not many of these colonies
about and a trip to the sub-antarctic may cost a tad more, this cost has to be put into some perspective.
Re Taiaroa Head - a boat trip off there is good also.
