Yes, each year is different, with a trend of range expansion each year. Around here, not a particularly loud year so far. Each morning heard distantly from Griffith and Lower Narrabundah, with occasional noisy individuals further afield
at Royal Narrabundah and the little park between La Perouse and Jansz. However, yesterday morning on the first dog walk a loud 'BZZERRIT' drew attention to a female in a garden backing onto Rocky Knob Neighbourhood Park. That loud nasal complaint is yet
another distinctive sound in the repertoire of this species, used when harassed (in this case by a wattlebird). After about 20 minutes it left the birch, being chased down towards Griffith, continuing to give out indignant ZRRRT-ZRRRts.

I know they have been around for some time now and have been hearing them frequently in Deakin/Narrabundah, but they always seem to get to Fadden much much later than elsewhere in Canberra. We've heard our first Koels here in the past
few days, just over 2 weeks later than last year when the first was around 24 October but similar to 2015.
