Thesis: Maintaining and perpetuating resources associated with mature trees for wildlife in modified landscapes

Thesis description

My PHD research has three broad goals. First, to measure the current availability of resources important to wildlife (e.g. tree hollows)across different land-use types (e.g. nature reserves, pastureland, and urban parks) and track the trajectory of these resources over time to determine how sustainable they are for future generations. Second, to determine what biodiversity value native trees of different size classes have in terms of the widlife they support (birds, bats and invertebrates) across landscapes with varying levels of modification. Thirdly, to trial the effectiveness of artificial nest boxes as a biodiversity offset tool aimed at perpetuating tree hollows in impacted ecosystems”

I agree with Philip on this, it really isn’t answering the original question and seeing as I probably can’t make the April meeting, leaves me still in the dark.

He wrote Yes Fleur, it’s part of a restoration project at the Molonglo River Reserve called the Barrer Hill BGW restoration.

I’ve arranged for the Ph D student involved, Darren Le Roux of the ANU’s Fenner School, to come and tell us about his project at the 12 April COG meeting.

But that is not an answer, nor does it clarify that it specifically about those boxes.  It is about the Barrer Hill BGW restoration, whatever that is. Although it may indicate that this person doesn’t want to give a quick answer on this forum and may wish to explain it in context. Which is fine too.

Jack Holland answered the original point in a message 2 days ago.
