Hi,
We went looking for Latham’s Snipe down our paddock (in Wamboin) today as we flushed two a couple of weeks ago from our dam. But no luck with the Snipe, although that’s not surprising given all the water and “pop-up” wetlands that have appeared around
the neighbourhood at the moment, courtesy of ~400mm of rain since June.
However, I recorded 37 species on the walk, the highlights being:
Rufous Whistler
White-throated Gerygone
Western Gerygone (all firsts for us this Spring)
Shining Bronze-cuckoo
Satin Bowerbird (a recent arrival)
Eurasian Coot (x2, also recent arrivals, hopefully they will breed here)
Flame Robin
Dusky Woodswallow
Olive-backed Oriole
Varied Sittella
White-eared, Brown-headed, White-naped and Yellow-faced Honeyeaters aplenty
Zero Snipe
And yes, (Alastair) they have all been entered in eBird.
