I heard and saw a male yesterday afternoon on the North Ainslie Primary School oval and then was woken up by one this morning.
My son heard one on Friday. Definitely back. 5 years ago, when I heard the first ever, it was after Christmas (though I only got back to the area at the beginning of December).
A couple of months ago our new neighbours axed both red flowering gums they had in their garden. Haven't seen Red Wattlebirds for a while, but spotted some - and heard more - this morning when I did an Aussie Backyard
Bird Count.

(17th) we heard the male-female interaction.

closer to the end of October.
Will the much warmer weather forecast over the next week mean an influx could be expected?
