Hi All,

A big 'thank you' to those who offered me information and advice regarding my very brief visits to the Griffith area and Hattah Kulkyne.

In spite of the brevity of each visit we managed to see numerous new birds including Mulga, Blue Bonnet and Ringneck parrots at Griffith (Remembrance Drive & Wattle Dam) and Apostlebirds, Grey-crowned Babblers and Spiny-cheeked honeyeaters.

Hattah Kulkyne was a little disappointing, but we were there in the middle of the day and temperatures were close to 30, so not ideal. It was lovely to see Black-tailed Native Hens (first sighting), avocets and black-winged stilts on Lake Hattah (& quite a few other species). We also saw Regent Parrots (but no photos) and ringnecks and chestnut-rumped thornbills (new bird).

We headed into Ouyen to stay that night and I was feeling disappointed that we hadn't spotted a single Major Mithchell and magically one appeared on the power lines in the middle of town! (another first for me). A brief wander down the street was worthwhile .... singing honeyeaters and white-breasted woodswallows.

I'll definitely have to re-visit both places when I have the time to do them justice!

Cheers
Julie
