Waves of birds

Best way to tell species of migrating Honeyeaters is to listen.
Yellow-faces make chip, chip calls, and White-napes make a mewing call, or an occasional sucking sound as they fly.
Contact calls. Very different from the elaborate calls in breeding season.

Hope that helps,

In my GBS, a drop or two.  But at least I am seeing groups of about 5 - 10
every now and again - a novelty for this Deakin site.
I also had a female Rufous Whistler and a Noisy Friarbird, unusual sightings
for my GBS site.

I guess mine would be more like ripples. But fairly constant small groups
(5-20 birds) of mixed honeyeaters flying over my house in Florey all
morning. Mostly Yellow-faced, with occasional White-naped HEs and Red
Wattlebirds thrown in.

small birds, presumably honey-eaters, flew from the Brindabellas between
Uriarra Station and Blue Range Road across Uriarra Village headed towards
the Cotter Dam. I assumed they were Yellow-faced Honey-eaters but on close
inspection of very unfocused photos, some seemed to be much yellower
underneath than the photo gallery indicates. Perhaps there were some
White-eared Honey-eaters amongst them or could they all have been
White-eareds?
