Very interesting Steve, it would seem very late to still be on eggs with the migration season about to start in 6-7 weeks time.

Over the past couple of days we’ve had YFHE move into our Chapman garden, including one begging yellow-gaped fledgling.  This is quite unusual, I can only remember YFHE breeding in my GBS site once before, much earlier than the 2003 fires.  They have been not that far away all summer, in particular the SW corner of Narrabundah Hill reserve.

A Yellow-faced Honeyeater on Warks Road (about 1000m elevation) and a White-naped Honeyeater on Blundells Creek Road (about 875m) were on nests last Monday (2nd Feb). No young were seen or heard as the adults approached the nest so most likely they both had eggs.

It is getting into the season when some migrants disappear from Carwoola (200m above Canberra, so the seasons are about 2 weeks different).  So I was very surprised this morning to follow some squeaking calls and find a nest full of Yellow-faced Honeyeaters in a floribunda rose beside our Western veranda.
