This is the first Sacred Kingfisher (see flickr link below) that I’ve seen on Mt Rogers over a fifteen year period. The area is almost moving with Christmas beetles, butterflies, dragonflies and general insect life – supporting a lot of activity. I have seen the currawongs hawking the Christmas beetles but not seen one actually being eaten. A Koel is present virtually every morning and afternoon in the area from Mildenhall Place to Wickens Place on the northern side of Mt Rogers in Fraser. It’s probably the same one/s that have been there for the last three years. There are a lot of red wattle birds in the area and I suspect these will be playing host to some young shortly!

PS There’s a nice coffee at the local Spence shop.
