For those interested, note that public comment has been invited by the Dept of Environment, Australian Government on the Draft EPBC Act Policy Statement: Camp management guidelines for the Grey-headed and Spectacled flying-fox.

A copy of the statement for comment may be viewed and comments addressed to the website at:

The period for comment closes on 30th January 2015.

Please note that due to the size and period of occupation of Canberra’s flying-fox camp by the grey-headed flying-fox at Commonwealth Park, it is not currently identified as being one of the 43 Nationally important camps of the Grey-headed Flying-fox for the purposes of the Statement. See Figure 4. p. 9 and Attachment 1. p 7. explaining the criteria for identification. However, that status could change and monitoring of flying-fox numbers at the Commonwealth Park camp continues.
