Hi,
Yesterday morning members of COG conducted the quarterly bird survey of the Jerrabomberra Wetlands under agreement with the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust. As part of the survey two members were given special approval by ACTEW Water to also survey the Fyshwick Sewage Ponds. The area has been closed to the public since January 2014 to allow for remedial work in the area.
We were accompanied by Gail Sutton, Remote Plants Engineer, ACTEW Water on the condition we signed in and wore high-vis jackets. The area is a construction site and no access is allowed to the general public. On talking to Gail she confirmed that the area was off-limits 24/7 to all members of the public and this situation would continue for the next 6 months as work is about to start rock armouring one of the ponds.
Gail also confirmed that any prior arrangement for entry was null and void. Anyone who thinks they have entry to the area or would like to discuss the situation further can contact her on MOB 0477 743 775 or >
Once the final stage of the work is complete ACTEW Water will be discussing with COG the possibilities of access into the future. It was emphasised that if unauthorised people were found on the site it was possible that any access in the future would be denied with a high fence around the entire area to prevent access.
To reiterate, if anyone thinks they have permission for access to the site could they please contact Gail Sutton for conformation.
Chris
