For some time this morning an owlet-nightjar was sunning itself at the entrance to a hollow, at pretty much the site where ONs were present a year or two ago. The tree is three metres from the previously favoured one. The bird retreated from view when a platoon of squaddies came past on a route march, then re-emerged.

Black-faced cuckoo-shrikes seemed to be back in force. I saw at least five. Also 9-10 Common bronzewings, which flew in in ones and twos from the east, low over the paddocks. Only one flame robin, a female. Skylarks singing strongly.
