For some reason I didn’t get Martin’s original email concerning his photo. To me it is quite obvious what it is – roast duck in season with seasoning. Obviously a Mallard derivative from someone’s backyard and should be removed pronto!

There could be some other domestic strain in there.  According to HANZAB the recurved upper tail-coverts should be black (sometimes glossy) rather than pale grey.

Still no Plumed Whistling Ducks.  However this was swimming around with the Black Ducks and Grey Teal:

To my mind this looks pretty much like a Mallard, with no Pacific Black Duck DNA.  What doo others think?
