Barbara Allan and I completed the survey on Friday July 4. The fog quickly lifted to a typical still sunny winter day, not very cold, and almost perfect for bird observing, apart from the fact that the birds were pretty far and few between. On two sites we saw nothing on site, but heard a few calls from off site. There was only one (slightly) unusual sighting, which was a Hoary-headed Grebe on the dam at site 9, accompanies by a Pacific Black Duck, half a dozen Wood Ducks, and a single A. Coot. This was the most prolific site, with 16 species observed, 4 of them off site.
At the Grenade Range Site there were 2 Wood Ducks inspecting hollows, and the most numerous birds there were 35 Common Starlings, as well as a few Crimson and Eastern Rosellas and 6 Red-rumped Parrots.
There were a few observations of Scarlet Robins, a single observation of A Magpie-lark, and a few little brown birds, but it was mainly a morning of the usual suspects of cockies, parrots and Magpies.
