Just had a pair of Rainbow Lorikeets in the Euc. Leucoxylon in our front
garden (Griffith). The closest I'd previously seen them was across the
other side of Red Hill in Garran.
Their numbers do seem to be increasing locally - I wonder how long
before they start having an adverse effect on the local Rosellas through
competition for nest hollows. I certainly notice whenever I visit Perth
that the Lorikeets that were introduced there have very successfully
out-competed the Twenty-eight Parrots that were quite common when I was
growing up there in the 1960s, to the extent that I don't recall seeing
any Twenty-eight Parrots around Perth on my last couple of visits.
