This nest has been active for many years - I used to take Jerry Olsen their
every year for monitoring purposes. There is no public access by vehicle
whether the gate is open or not. Access is a matter for Parks and Con who
manage the land not for Cord Civil. People can walk down but as it is easy to
get close to the nest it would be beneficial to the eagles if hordes of people
did not go to visit this nest as they may abandon it. Uriarra Village
development wanted to allow horse riding along the track by the nest but we
kept this area horse free for the benefit of the eagles. With the loss of the
Molonglo nests due to the development we don't want to lose Murrumbidgee nests
due to people disturbance.

Further to the Stony Creek list, Phil, a Uriarra resident who works planting
trees along the Murrumbidgee, told me yesterday there is a wedge tailed eagle
nest with young in the reserve. You go along the dirt track off Brindabella
Road (just up the hill from the village headed towards the
Cotter) which leads to the Cord and Civil depot. Follow the track down to the
river and you can look down into the nest from above. It would be a good idea
to check first with Cord and Civil to see if the gate near Brindabella Road is
open. Sometimes it is closed but you can always walk in.
On other babies - two of the magpie lark young have managed to fly but the
third is still in the nest. There is a nest with three willy wagtails on a box
on the front wall of 89 Jim Bradley. There are young satin bowerbirds but I
haven't seen the nest.

A little later this morning at Stony Creek - Painted Honeyeaters, Dusky
Woodswallows with dependent young plus further Dusky Woodswallows taking food
to a hollow (presumably containing a nest), plus also a Starling taking food to
a hollow (presumably also containing a nest). Most of the birds reported for
this site over the last couple of weeks were also present, including both
Gerygones, but I missed out on the sitellas (sittellas always seem to be where
I am not).

This morning from 8:00, the Painted Honeyeaters were still on the nest near the
entrance from Uriarra NR to Stony Creek NR. White-browed Woodswallow were on a
nest (hollow) in the next tree. Mary Gorman and I also saw Varied Sitella on a
nest and Dusky Woodswallow with dependent young.
