On the avocets numbers, this is the result of photographing the aggregation in sections with a long lens and dot-counting.  It is possible to enlarge to zero in on overlapping birds.  In the smaller group (not shown) there were 30 avos, together with about 20 B-w Stilts.  The count is 240 avocets, quite a number.  I’m not sure if it has been reported as such;  perhaps it has  - there are a lot of birdwatchers out that way.  Mark Clayton’s stab of 250-300 indicated a practised eye.   This was on Friday, with rather fewer the next day and NONE on Sunday.
