There are 3 in this street (Narrabundah), the remnants of a tree-planting program in the 60s. (They were not notably successful as a street tree. The alternating manniferas have done much better.) The largest of the three in particular has been flowering for at least 4 weeks. The ground beneath it is littered with leaves and flowering twiglets, the result of feeding by what William Golding called, comparing a sight of egrets in his book about travel on the Nile, “Sulphur Cockatoos”, evidently half-recalling a name he was told on a distant visit to Australia.

The ironbarks in Tuggeranong have been flowering all winter, or at least from early July.

Hi,
I note that at present there is a good flowering event from the Red Ironbarks E sideroxylon which are being fed on by the Superb Parrots in the area. Can anyone tell me if the flowering has just started or if this species has been flowering all winter. Interestingly I was out at Jindalee NP yesterday and the Ironbarks were not on flower there.
