I will add my vote for Red-necked Wallaby rather than a Swampie.

Here are my recent images of a Swampie http://franmart.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/a-visitor-to-garden.html showing the very restricted area of red and the overall darker colour.   To my mind Swampies also have a very different 'jizz' to Red-necks, with the latter behaving more like small kangaroos.

Hi Margaret and David

I concur that it is not a Swamp Wallaby.
Much too light on the front, and reddish on shoulders.

Real Swampies can be almost black with grey muzzle and red behind the ears. But overall, much darker than Margaret's animal.

Check out some of my images of a true Swampy.

Is it OK if I forward this thread to the chat line?  I’m no expert either, I just thought the swamp (aka black) wallaby was the more common around here.

The white on the front and inside the ears and the clear white face stripe; the reddish on the neck and shoulders; and the overall lighter colour.

But I’m no expert.  I suggest you ask others.

I thought it was a swamp wallaby.  Why do you think it is a red-necked?

Is that a red-necked wallaby?

One of three at Tidbinbilla this morning.  Also saw another on the road on the way out.  Four in a day is certainly a record for me.
