Rod,
I think the woolshed that Philip Veerman is referring to is ”Caiwarro” in the north-eastern part of Currawinya NP. A group of us stayed at the nearby campsite in 2011 while were travelling to Cape York. There are flushing toilets (not gender specific from memory) near the woolshed, several hundred metres from the campsite. I don’t have the bird-list that was recorded for that part of our trip – perhaps Martyn Moffat or Noel Luff may have theirs available – but do remember seeing a Square –tailed Kite just after we entered the park from Hungerford at the junction of the Thargomindah and Eulo Roads. The next day we travelled west on the Thargomindah Road along the border fence and there were large flocks of mostly Crimson Chats but there was the occasional Orange Chat mixed in with them. We didn’t travel out to the lakes so I have no idea how much water was in them but given the excellent conditions at the time, I imagine they would have been full. Things may now be drying out.
I’m not sure if you have to book with Qld NPWS beforehand or can just turn up at the ranger station but I am sure there is a fee for camping. We arrived late in the afternoon and left early the next day and didn’t see a ranger. We did have a lot of travelling to do and weren’t trying to get away with not paying – we were all happy to pay. I am sure if you Google the name of the park you will come up with details that may help you.
Hope that this is of some use. Happy birding!
Cheers,
Mar

Subject: [canberrabirds] Out of area - request for info.
I will be visiting this NP shortly as part of an extended outback trip. It's a Ramsar site so I expect some good birding there. My question relates to the camping areas, facilities etc. - can anyone who has been there make any recommendations, or offer any advice in this regard? Any hints on best birding locations would also be appreciated.
