Rob, I would suggest that your small bird is a Buff-rumped Thornbill. I’m afraid I can’t get anything out of your mp3 recording, it is just “noise”! I obviously don’t have the right software on my computer to hear your later recording. They were feeding at around 10m off the ground in a group and there was a Grey Fantail along for the fun. They looked to be around Thornbill size, and from the photo, the top of the head looked dark brown. Sorry about the poor quality image but even with a 300mm lens at that distance, a small bird in poor light is hard to catch! The MP3 file demonstrates the calls they were making - my apologies for the Currawongs having a corroboree in the background! The camera's microphone is omnidirectional. The fantail can also be heard toward the end. It sounds more like they were having a territorial dispute than happily feeding! I have kept the combined size of the attachments below 100K. |
