Bill, contrary to your impressions, I regard this as a warm-weather caller,
associated with open bedroom windows in late spring, early summer. That is
consistent with the McComas Taylor atlas and the Philip Veerman book. I
certainly heard pairs during last summer.

Subject: first Boobook of autumn?

Heard Boobook from 0300-0303h this morning about 380m from our house.
There's a big pond near the Roden Cutler /Mobourne roundabout in Bonner.
Three mature eucs. then bare paddocks . Like the first blowfly of spring,
could this be a new competition? Has anyone heard Boobooks during summer?
I'm usually up and on our al fresco in the early hours and have not heard
this species in the last four months? Could others post their first call of
autumn please?
B. Graham
