Koels at Woolies

A juv Koel, attended by Red wattlebirds, was calling in a plane tree between
Dickson Woolies and Dickson Library this morning.

The interesting thing was the unusual call: it was halfway between the begging
call of a juv wattlebird and that of an adult Koel. It didn't seem to be
approximating the call of the host species as much as those we've seen and
heard before, and appeared to be suffering from an identity crisis, the call
being a louder, two-noted chirrup, almost a soft ko-el. The host parents were
still feeding it though, apparently.

We have mediocre pics if anyone wants them.
