Yes Denis, I have observed this behaviour at Kellys, as ‘snap’ frozen below
from a couple of weeks ago.
The extensive ripples were caused by the right foot “paddling” the mud just
below the surface.
As
the COG line has been full of reports of this species recently, I submit a video
from Duncan Fraser in Gippsland, a well respected birder and naturalist.
http://bencruachan.org/blog/?p=13804His
brief video clearly shows the bird "paddling the mud", one foot at a time,
then striking for an insect or other invertebrate.
Has this behaviour been in
evidence at Kelly's Swamp, where, by reports the levels are low, favouring mud
paddling, and visibility?
