David,

You are right with they bred somewhat distant from this area and had travelled here. Indeed I have noticed in recent days that KPs have begun to come back into my GBS area after some weeks of absence. As with most such questions, this phenomenon is described in detail in The GBS Report and has been further discussed in many prior messages on this chat line.

It most recently came up in discussing the on line article about the Common Myna that included the King Parrot in the comparisons, along with parrots that breed locally, whilst apparently oblivious to that the King Parrot never breeds in Canberra and so my point was that the comparison was vacuous.

On a walk last evening, my wife and I saw a family of four King Parrots with two dependent young being fed by both parents.  They were near Melbourne Ave on the Forrest side.  I haven’t seen breeding activity of KPs around here before.  Perhaps they bred somewhat distant from this area and had travelled here.  Indeed I have noticed in recent days that KPs have begun to come back into my GBS area after some weeks of absence.
