Yes it sounds like a fair idea. Of course I don't know. There are similar
species possible source species in the pacific region but not one that still
looks the same. But that is not a big issue, an ancestor species could have
gone extinct or quickly evolved yet another appearance. A seemingly slightly
better variant of John's idea is that the second invasion from the unchanged
ancestor species from outside Australia occurred and this time the birds changed
in size the other direction.
