I was fortunate enough to see 2 male Painted Honeyeaters this morning at
Mulligan's Flat, near the COG bird walk marker #5. Despite the windy
conditions there was a lot of bird activity. I saw 3 Brush Cuckoos, 1
Horsefiled's and 2 Shining Bronze Cuckoos and a Pallid Cuckoo. There is
clearly a lot of breeding activity at the moment.
In an interesting inter-species interaction a Buff-rumped Thornbill
stole a white contour feather (presumably from a SC Cockatoo since
Mulligan's Flat remains mostly a Corella-free zone) from a male
Mistletoebird and then appeared to taunt the Mistletoebird with its
prize. This continued for at least 10 minutes at which point my
patience was exceeded and I did not witness the outcome of this impasse.
