This year the friarbirds were around for about a week in my area in Kaleen, then they disappeared. Years ago when I was banding in the backyard Noisy Friarbirds were a common catch, now they are almost non-existent in the area. I don’t suppose the ACT Government cutting down of a lot of the Mugga Ironbarks that used to grace the street behind my house has anything to do with it!!! This was all done because a few of them showed some signs of stress during the drought. Those that they left were a bit healthier but now look in fine shape. Mark From: Geoffrey Dabb [

(They raised 3 chicks here in January this year.) This morning I finally found the nest, about 5m up in a large Yellow box tree. I am hopeful that I will be able to see chicks eventually. It is unlikely the nest will be parasitised by Koels as we get get very few of them out here but I have this week recorded 5 cuckoo species in my GBS site (Horsfields and Shining bronze; Pallid, Fan-tailed and Brush.
