My morning walk takes me along Canterbury Cres, not far from Parliament House. There is always a noisy collection of Currawongs there, in the trees, feeding on the ground, chasing each other and all the time calling. This morning I got a glimpse of a chase but the chaser was not a Currawong. It was a bit smaller and had sharp wings – the jizz said falcon. The event set off total cacophony as birds came from everywhere. I looked around for the attacking bird which obligingly came back. It was a Peregrine Falcon. Did someone report PGs operating around PH or was it only at Defence and at Woden?
As I continued my walk, I observed a pair of Gang-gangs inspecting a hollow and chewing bark in a eucalyptus in the park next to the Lodge (in the same spot that I saw a Long-billed Corella the other day).
Also, a couple of days ago, a pair of Olive-backed Orioles flew over Melbourne Avenue heading north.
